Random words and image association

Random words are easy, simple but yet a very effective creative technique. This is also a great way to generate new ideas. Random words works by helping people to think and genarate for ideas. Random words pushes people out of their current thinking rut and make people think in new ways and create different, unique ideas.

In our daily life, we are always motivated by something, but sometimes we need chances to help us achieve our desire and we need to always grab hold of chances, but in order to do that, we need a little knowledge to know when the chance is presented in front of us or else we could can let it slip by that easily.

In random words and image association, there will always be a catalyst, and that catalyst is like a chance, it will help us get to where we want to be, but that catalyst is also not necessarily important when in our desire target.

A few examples of random words and image association:

How to use it:
  • Use it to stimulate open and divergent thinking and seek creative new ideas.
  • Use it to re-ignite creative thinking when you are running out of ideas.
  • Use it to get people out of a rut when their thinking is still rather conventional.

Exercise:
We were asked to create a scary image or object with association of an image of a cute kitten. We then need to explained what and why is it scary to us.

Kitten= furry, whiskers, tail, eyes, paw, sharp teeth

Paws= paws have sharp claw in them, claw are painful when scratched on and that can create fear.

So I've created......

A sharp claw ball!!
When people look at it they won't even dare to touch it cause of it's sharp claws popping out.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition literary refers to a placing or being placed in nearness or contiguity, or side to side, as a juxtaposition of words. In art, this is usually done to bring out a specific quality or creating an effect, especially when two contrasting or opposing elements are used . It is also to make a clear view of the differences and similarity of the object.

Here's a few example of what juxtapositio
n is...

CLASS EXERCISE
We did a little word play exercise which I find to be quite fun n creative. The first thing we need to do is choose 3 numbers from 1-100 and write them down. We are then given a list of words with numbers beside them. The next step is to match the words' number with the numbers you chosen and write down the words.

1.Flower
2.Lightning
3.Ice
4.Light
5.Fire
6.Duck
7.Dog
8.Oil
9.Leave
0.Fly
-------------
0.Head
9.Rain
8.Wood
7.Tree
6.Spider
5.Root
4.Mountain
3.Wind
2.Rock
1.Water

The number I've chosen are 29, 70, and 35.
So the words are:
1) 29- Lightning, Rain
2) 70- Dog, Head
3) 35- Ice, Root

Next, our lecturer told us to form a sentence using
those words that have been chosen.

1) My little sister is scare of the lightning when it r
ain.
2) That silly dog just hit it's head on the lamp post.
3) I like to drink my ice lemon tea with some ginseng root.

Then we were asked to draw out the sentences we
just wrote.

After that, we were then asked again to this time, co
mbine the two words and draw its exact meaning.

For the next exercise, we were asked to choose two
animal and combine them together to form a species that is quite impossible to survive. And it had to be part head/part tail. Here's mine~

Tadaa~ it's a chickifish( chicken+fish)!!

Exercise 3:

1. Create a passage / writing that describe the concept of "love" , chili as metaphor.
  • Love is like a chili. It can spice up our lives like a chili can with our taste buds. Some may find it too hard to handle while others love the tantalizing feeling it gives.

Life and Candle
  • Life is like a candle. Slowly getting shorter and shorter as time passes by. It is also fragile, a little wind just mind blow the life away so appreciate before its too late.
Pain and Ice-cream
  • Pain is when you bite onto an ice-cream, and a sudden sharpness just pierced through you,so hurtful that it is unbearable.

Mind mapping

A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid to studying and organizing information, solving problems, making decisions, and writing. The 'Laws of Mind Mapping' were originally devised by Tony Buzan when he codified the use of imagery, colour and association and coined the phrase 'Mind Mapping'.

Mind-mapping can be categories to two type, wh
ich is Logical mind-map and Associated mind-map.

Logical mind-map:
Is very stereotypes based. Whatever we write o
r draft in this mind-map has direct link or is relevant to the main subject.

Associated mind-map:
The main subject and the links drafted are no
t necessary connected to one another. Random things can be put together after the main subject. This is useful for being creative and to put up ideas and generate fast thinking.

CLASS EXERCISE

We were told to imagine if we are now living in the future years and so happened to stumble upon a pair of mortar and pestle. We were then presented with a selection of words which we need to choose 3 from and come up of 3 ways of what really is the usage of that pair of mortar and pestle using the chosen words.
Check out mine....

FAT
  • As a tool to get rid of unwanted body fat. You place the mortar on your body part which you would like to remove body fat, press it in and then use the pestle to repeatedly knock on the mortar until you loose enough fat.

FASHION
  • Can be use as an accessories to wear on top of your head to look more fashionable and trendy.

MARRIED
  • As a symbol that you are married. Must be present in whosoever house if they are married.
