Defining Creativity

Based on Wikipedia, the meaning of novelty is the quality of being new. Although it may be said to have an objective dimension (e.g. a new style of art coming into being, such as abstract art or impressionism) it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals.

Novelty is very important in arts and design, it has to be something different and unique and it need creativity when applying in every design.

Besides that, thinking skills or intelligence is also important for the society. So they say " Education kills creativity", that is actually quite true, because of how the education in every country is fixed and formed, they have actually taught and trained us to be so rigid and typical, that now creativity is hardly to be seen.

We need to break out of the cliche, stereotypes the society has been brought up to. Everyone is different in their own unique way.

Here's is some suggestive ways on how you can be a more creative person:
a) Study the people around you
-Observe the personality and behavior of the society.

b) Study a specific product
-Get a better understanding of the product that you wanted to innovate.

c) Study the environment
- Observe the environment and figure out what is basic, typical things and try to change that.

d) Study the process
-Research about the process of how a specific object or product works in order to find ways to upgrade it.

Creativity what??!

In this week of creative studies, we got down to the very basics. What is creativity? Well actually there is no exact or correct answer to that because it various from people to people. For me, creativity is when you use a new or imaginative idea to take something familiar and turning it into something fresh and out of the ordinary.

Creativity actually could translate into two form, which is innovation and invention.

> Invention : An invention is a new composition, device, or process. (source: Wikipedia)

>Innovation : The process that renews something that exists and not, as is commonly assumed, the introduction of something new. (source: Wikipedia)

Invention is like how Thomas Edison created the light bulb

While innovation is like taking the light bulb and trying to create something new out of it.

On another note, we got so used to doing our daily routines everyday that our 'thinking juices' is slowly becoming inactive...why?? Well, because our brain is not really thinking, it is just finding familiar information located in our brain 'storage file', for example if I ask you 'Name one soft drink' and I'm sure the first name you can think of is Coca-cola, am I right?

Apparently our brain has been set to think in a certain way because of the majority mind set of the society. Therefore, in order to become a really creative person, you need to think outside of the box, different from the ordinary, cause I'm sure if you can bring out your inner creativeness, you will definitely stand out among the rest.
